Volume 12, Issue 2: Charging Stations From Chargepoint

EV Charging Stations from ChargePoint

Many coops today recognize the need for additional future load growth, and many of those coops are now looking at electric vehicles and their need for daily charging as an avenue to accomplish this growth. Western United has partnered with ChargePoint, the dominant domestic manufacturer of electric charging stations to provide competitive prices and local product support. ChargePoint estimates that by the year 2040, 54% of new car sales in the US will be electric. Additionally, they estimate that in the next five years, the growth of electric cars in North America (554%), buses (234%), MD trucks (458%), and HD trucks (457%) will all be in triple digits. Charging stations will be needed in residences (homes and apartment complexes), workplaces, retail establishments, commercial properties and along highways (especially interstates). ChargePoint currently offers Level 1, Level 2 and DC Fast Chargers with over 62,000 ports currently installed nationally (1500 of which are in CO). A recent survey has revealed that 78% of electric vehicle charging occurs at home, 16% at work and 5% at public sites. Thus many coops today are looking to provide rebates to their members for installing charging stations at their homes and many have either installed charging stations at their offices or a public site. The Colorado G&T (TriState) currently offers rebates to their member coops for EV charging stations. ChargePoint offers not only EV stations (UL approved) at all power levels, but also provides prompt 24x7 customer support, driver apps and services, and cloud-based solutions for managing stations (including monitoring and warranties). Please see your WUE account manager for more information and pricing or to arrange for an appointment with an in-state ChargePoint field service representative.

Custom Special Equipment from SPS

Western United continues to expand its offering of custom special equipment from Switchgear Power Systems (SPS). Previously, WUE had partnered with SPS to consign CT’s and PT’s to provide quick ship primary meter assemblies for the membership, which has been very helpful for multiple members to keep lead times and on-hand inventory at a minimum.

SPS is now installing ABB Molded Vacuum Interrupters in conjunction with the primary meter assembly to consolidate what would have traditionally been two pieces of special equipment into a single footprint. This helps reduce overall costs and increase staking, right-of-way and labor efficiencies in the field.

SPS can integrate many ABB or Eaton components into a single piece of equipment, all available for purchase through WUE.

Meter Treater Surge Protection Devices

WUE continues to offer meter base level surge protection with the Meter Treater, Inc. line of products. Several members are utilizing Meter Treater products at this point with great success.

WUE is currently stocking the 400 series surge protection device. Please get with your WUE salesperson for price and availability.
