Volume 14, Issue 1 - Meet Steve Martin

2020

The year 2020 is finally over and the list of adverse events that occurred in this single 12 month period is hard to comprehend.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who experienced hardship and loss over the course of the year.  There were a few bright spots, however, and Western United is thankful to be a part of the electric utility community, an industry that remained strong during this    troubled time.  We are thankful for the support of our members and customer base which lead us to record sales for the year.  Strong support from our manufacturing partners and our commitment to aggressively stock material, enabled us to deliver the material you needed throughout the year.  Western United continues to operate under this approach with record inventories on hand and the highest level of stock purchase orders in the pipeline in our history.  We strive to maintain multiple vendors for our products and encourage all   customers to consider alternatives when availability is limited.  The entire staff here at Western United is thankful for the relationships we have developed and look forward to a prosperous 2021.

Happy New Year!

Employee Spotlight

Meet Steve Martin

(No, not the actor/comedian - although he readily admits he’s “one wild and crazy guy”)

This Steve Martin is Western United’s recently promoted Inside Sales Manager. Steve works with his team to streamline processes, solve recurring issues and he keeps an eye on all day to day material. Although he now manages the inside team, he continues to handle a few accounts from his previous position as Senior Inside Sales Representative.

Steve started at Western United fresh out of College and has known about the Electric Coop world his whole life.  Steve's Dad Joe is on the Mountain View Board of Directors and currently serves as the Colorado representative for NRECA.  Now in his 10th year with Western United, Steve was promoted to Inside Sales Manager in November after 8 years as an inside sales representative. He began in WUE’s WEST department selling substation and transmission material. After that he transitioned to the distribution group where he worked closely with COOP members and municipal customers.  From there he was promoted to Sr. inside Sales representative where he worked with vendors, purchasing agents and engineers to ensure order and project efficiency.  Steve is a Colorado native who grew up in Limon and yes, he proudly lets us know he's a Badger.  He grew up playing all sports, with baseball being his favorite. He is a big fan of the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos. When he is not watching sports, he is out fishing or playing disc golf with friends.  Steve says his favorite part of job is the many great relationships he has formed not only here at WUE but with all the customers he has served over the years.  Please reach out to Steve with any questions, concerns....... or if you want to talk about playing the banjo or if he has an arrow going through his head.

New Team Members

Recent growth and retirements have prompted the addition of four new employees to the Western United staff. Our Brighton facility welcomes Thomas Trujillo and Chris Allen to our Warehouse Operations and Jamall Guillory is joining WUE as our Warehouse Operations Specialist. Jamall will undertake process improvement programs as well as revamping Western United’s Safety program through CREA’s Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP). One new employee has recently been added to our New Mexico operation. Adam Tomczak has joined the staff as our Albuquerque Warehouse representative.

Featured Manufacturer

Throughout 2020 Western United repeatedly reported manufacturer delays, plant closures and product stock-outs. One manufacturer was notably absent from that list—OKONITE. The staff from OKONITE consistently ensured that Western United stock was sufficient to meet the needs of our membership and customers. Multiple, US based production plants and a partnership with suppliers ensured that product was available when you needed it.
